The Holy Instant according to A Course in Miracles, refers to one’s choice to accept the energy of love over fear and unity over separation. It is a choice that can be made in a single moment, but one that may also require a lifetime of practice and repetition.

Every stride we ride or step that we take is an opportunity for the Holy Instant. You can be open to the immense power that comes from trusting intuitive guidance or you can respond with separation or fear. It could be fear of change, fear of something different than what you have done a certain way all your life. When you see the world through that lens, you can only act from a place of separation. You want so badly to hang on to the way you see the world, to what you know has worked for you for years, yet if you are honest, it is clear does not work anymore. The insanity is in thinking that when this happens, when you no longer get results, that by sticking to your guns things will change. You blame your horse, you look for answers anywhere but yourself, anything that does not involve that Holy Instant of allowing a vision of love, a guidance much greater than you to open your heart. What is possible however, if you are willing to accept that holy instant, in that place filled with discomfort most of us are not willing to enter freely, is instantaneous freedom. It is that “aha moment” we hear about so often. It requires no strength that we don’t already possess, it requires no skill, it only requires us to surrender and listen to the guidance. The moment we let go and begin to fall off the precipice, it sweeps under us as a guiding force that catches us and does not allow us to touch the ground. That holy instant is the moment where everything makes sense. Where we realize that we were always inches away from it, from a power that is not ours, a power that is overwhelming and as clear as those moments where it all finally makes sense. We cant arrive to it with our brains, it has to be a surrendering into something we don’t understand, we can only feel it. We cant arrive to it through will power, through our strength we get more of the same. We need to be brave enough and open to receive that Holy Instant. If we are willing to let go of what we think is true, what we think is real, what we think is safe, only then will be showered with a different vision. One that on our own seems impossible, one that honestly we don’t think we want because it requires that we put ourselves aside and humbly recognize we just don’t know anything. It is like a vision that is given to us, nobody has to explain it or confirm it because it FEELS right. And we have always known that feeling yet very few times have we been able to arrive there due to our egos, our false selves, or brains who have gotten in the way. They have clouded what we have always known to be true with thoughts, expectations, comparisons and have blinded us. And as we try to find our ways in the dark, the Holy Instant holds the promise to become our light through which to see, but not with our eyes and comprehension. We now see with the eyes that God wants us to see and those reside in the purity of our hearts and of our intuition. Those eyes are guided by a loving force that wants us to know that we are LOVE and wants us to live through that lens and not one of fear and attachments which the world has taught us.
